NYC Outings for You and Your Best Friend
Experience: City Life
Check Out These Pup-Centric Adventures
We know how much your dog means to you and your family. That’s why we think you should be able to include your best friend in every adventure – and maybe even plan a few adventures that are all about the pup. The Benjamin is pleased to present you with this list of some special places for a dog in the city to play, swim, go on a guided scavenger hunt, get a little shopping in - or even sit for their portrait.
Carl Schurz Park, 1624 York Ave., New York, NY
Carl Schurz Park is located in Manhattan (Yorkville, Upper East Side), adjacent to Gracie Mansion, and overlooking the East River. Dogs can play off leash in two dog runs (one for large dogs and one for small) and are welcome on leash in the rest of the park, with the exception of the Hillside and Circle Lawns. Well-maintained landscaping and beautiful views make this park a wonderful destination for the human members of the family as well.
Prospect Park Dog Beach, 95 Prospect Park W, Brooklyn, NY
There are only a handful of places in New York City where a law-abiding dog can cool off in the water during the summer months. Prospect Park’s “Dog Beach” is one of the exceptions. During off-leash hours (5am-9am), dogs in Prospect Park are allowed to swim at the Dog Beach, just off Long Meadow Beach at The Pools. Click here to see its location within the park.
Wagwear, 48 E 11th Street, New York, NY
Bring your dog to Wagwear (in Greenwich Village) to shop for high quality dog clothing, luxury beds, carriers, collars and leashes and more, all designed and made in NYC. Founder Amy Harlow describes the brand as cool, classic, quality, fun and functional. Many garments can even be custom tailored, for your hard-to-fit but fashion-forward dog.
William Secord Gallery
Padgett, who does both oil paintings and ink drawings, created a portrait of David Letterman’s Labrador Retrievers as a gift from one of his staffers upon his retirement. Visit the link above for details on commissioning a portrait of your own dog from this NYC artist.
Make The Benjamin home base for some quality time with your pet. Readers of USA Today and 10 Best ranked The Benjamin as one of the “10 Best Pet Friendly Hotels” in the country in 2013, for all the ways we welcome and pamper our four-legged guests. Our goodDOG program even includes an in-room pet mini-bar with treats and non-alcoholic Bowser Beer.
Click here for online reservations at The Benjamin and please be sure to notify our concierge firstname.lastname@example.org that you are planning to bring your pet so that a dog bed can be ready for his or her arrival.
