Guide to New Year's Eve in NYC

There are many ways to ring in the New Year in New York City that don’t include a certain ball drop.  Steer clear of Times Square this year and celebrate 2017 by experiencing something new.  From concerts to fireworks, and a hangover brunch, check out our list of recommended New Year’s experiences in New York City.

Concert

Annaleigh Ashford: New Year’s Magic!

Stage star Annaleigh Ashford returns for her yearly one-night-only cabaret concert and New Year’s Eve special at 54 Below.  With her band, the Whiskey 5, Annaleigh will perform original tunes and Broadway numbers as guests indulge in a three-course dinner with champagne.  After the show, the tables will be removed and guests can dance the night way on the Studio 54 inspired dancefloor, perfect for ringing in the New Year.  Tickets can be purchased here.

Fireworks

Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn

A picnic may sound something more suited to warmer weather but for a low-key and easy New Year’s Eve, view the fireworks above Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn.  Pack a thermos, chairs and plenty of warm blankets as fireworks dazzle in the sky above Park Slope.  Live music starts at 11 p.m. and you can snag a complimentary cup of hot chocolate upon arrival.  A complete guide to all Brooklyn fireworks can be found here.

Cruise

Bateaux New Year’s Eve Fireworks Dinner Cruise

Speaking of fireworks, splurge this year on viewing them from sea instead of land, with the Bateaux New Year’s Eve Fireworks Dinner Cruise.  The glass-enclosed boat boasts an unobstructed view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks and floats passed all of the city’s best landmarks including the Brooklyn Bridge, Governors Island and the Statue of Liberty.  Included in the ticket price is a three-course dinner, open bar and a live jazz band.  Insider Tip: for those who are really looking to impress, upgrade to a premium package that includes a bottle of champagne and a dozen red roses.  Tickets can be purchased here.

Brunch

New Year’s Day Brunch at The National

A post-holiday hangover is a major possibility after a night of ringing in the New Year.  Luckily, The National at The Benjamin will be offering an all-day brunch menu for refueling after a long night out.  With a variety of different dishes, from steak and eggs to apple pancakes and everything in between, it’s the ideal way to start 2017. Reservations can be made here.
